Basic Violet 14 CAS 632-99-5
Yellow-green flashing crystalline lump or sand. Soluble in cold and hot water, it is reddish purple, and easily soluble in alcohol, it is red. In case of concentrated sulfuric acid, it is yellow-brown, almost colorless after dilution. Its aqueous solution and sodium hydroxide solution are almost colorless liquid with red precipitate. For the preparation of Schiff’s reagent to detect aldehydes, for the determination of some acid ions and metal ions by extraction photometry. Also used for photometric detection of bromine, nitrite and sulfur dioxide. Used as a maximal inhibitor in polarographic analysis. It is also used as a nuclear dye for biochemical analysis. It is the strongest nuclear dye. It can stain mucin, elastic tissue and fuchsin granules, and nuclear staining of the central nervous system. It is used to identify Mycobacterium tuberculosis in bacteriology, and it is formulated in analytical chemistry. Schiff’s reagent tests for aldehydes. Redox indicator for titration with bromate.
