Chemical property
White crystalline powder. Soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid, at 25 ℃ in the water solubility of about 10
mg/ml, saturated water solution pH value is about 5. Slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in ether and chloroform.
Production methodprocess
Vanilla aldehyde with dimethyl sulfate methyl hellebore aldehyde, again with the nitro oxide condensation
get 1 – (2 – nitro propenyl) – 3 ‘, 4 ‘- dimethoxy benzene, with iron powder reduction and generated
after hydrolysis of 3′, 4 ‘- dimethoxy
benzene acetone, Then by cyclization, open loop, hydrolysis reaction to get DL – methyldopa,
split out quick methyldopa left-handed.
Application
Left-handed methyldopa is a B blockers core vascular medicine, to moderate program of primary and renal hypertension
has good curative effect.
Methyldopa(L-α-Methyl-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine; Aldomet, Aldoril, Dopamet, Dopegyt, etc.) is an alpha-adrenergic
agonist (selective for α2-adrenergic receptors) psychoactive drug used as a sympatholytic or antihypertensive. Its use is
now mostly deprecated following the introduction of alternative safer classes of agents. However, it continues to have a
role in otherwise difficult to treat hypertension and gestational hypertension
(previously known as pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH)).
It is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines, a list of the most important
medication needed in a basic health system.
Medical uses
Methyldopa is used in the clinical treatment of the following disorders:
Hypertension (or high blood pressure)
Gestational hypertension (or pregnancy-induced hypertension) and pre-eclampsia
